This Little Piggy Likes To Play!

I never thought I'd become a "pig" person, but the pride and joy the kids take in owning their pigs is contagious!  Plus, there is not much cuter than kids and pigs!

In the weeks leading up to the fair, we spent more time with the pigs outside of their barn and pen.

Scott is the wrangler when the pigs start to stray where they shouldn't go...Not much different than parenting 😉

Jake and his purebred Duroc breeding gilt, Chip

We have some close friends who wanted to meet our piggies, so we invited the Wolles to come with us on our visit to the farm.

Wanda was quite taken with Matt and wanted to become his friend!

Wanda was being particularly playful with everyone that evening, so we fed her some mini marshmallows as a reward for good behavior.

Wanda was being SO gentle even Betsy and Henry were able to feed her a treat!

Wanda LOVES her belly rubs!

Just a girl and her pig! 💜

Buddies for life - Henry, Kate, Betsy, Keeley, & Jake (aka Cubby)!

After we put the pigs back in the pen we explored the rest of Farmer Kurt's farm.

We found some cows!  These are beef cows as opposed to dairy cows.

Relaxing and watching the cows.  Friends and farms - is there anything better?!?

Jake hopped right into chores and grabbed a bucket to feed the cows.

No need for "technology" when you've got cows to watch!

Wanna bet Jake is telling Scott all the reasons we need to move to a farm? 😉💙

This Little Piggy is Growing Up!

I've gotten behind with posting about our little piggies, so now I am playing catch up!

It is finally County Fair week and our little piggies have been busy growing, growing, growing!  Here are a bunch of pictures that show how much they've grown.

These pics are from May 29th, so about 1 month after we brought them home - they were about 3 months old.

Pigs in a normal pig barn are fed a feed mix supplied by the local coop - Show pigs are fed a special feed mix to help them pack on the muscle.

I would have never expected Kate to be the one that's most attached to the pigs but she is first in the pen and last to leave when we visit!

June 11th - it was a perfect day for getting the pigs out of the barn and working with them.

Scott and Farmer Kurt keeping an eye on the pigs and the kids!

Walking a pig is kind of like steering a horse - except the pig doesn't listen quite as well!

It was really hot on the 4th of July, but since we all had a day off, we decided to go for a visit.  They were all fast asleep in the barn with their fan on high when we got there!

At this point we were unfortunately down to 4 pigs - Dale, the completely white one, had had a few health issues since we got him and on June 22nd he passed away.  There were a few tears, of course, but it's part of owning and loving an animal and learning life lessons.

Katelyn is ALWAYS in the pen - she is just too stinkin' cute!!!
